The starting bid on these bikes was rather high for a non-running bike and a dead 'donor'. They were also about 200miles away, and I didn't have any way of shifting two bikes at the same time! But, quarter of an hour till auction end, they had received no bids, so decided to give it a shot... and won! So after a lot of running around, collecting LD02 and LD03, and arranging a trailer, we spend a day going to get them.
I was quietly pleased with 'Scruffy' when I got there. OK, its err... scruffy, but mechanically its NOT as bad as its owner had made out, and after a quick ride round the garages behind his house, was grinning rather!
I am amazed at how many people reckon that fork-seals are the magic ingredient that grants a bike an MOT, because as ever, the seller reckoned that that was ALL this bike needed, but then went on to explain that they had bought 'Five-Alive' as a donor for forks, explaining that that one was a younger bike, but a Cat-C insurance write off, so couldn't be put back on the road.
Anyway, loaded up and brought home, 'Scruffy' has, not had much attention. I've bought new fork-seal's & gaiters, taper head-race bearings, and paint while I was getting bits for 'Number Seven', but have them on the shelf, ready for when 7's done, and I can give this one my full attention.
